The original version of this model was the inspiration for the entire catalogue of tilted-axis box pleated models I have designed over the past five years or so. It came about in an effort to design a giganotosaurus head first from the corner of the square. At the time this dinosaur was depicted with a very angular head shape, so it made sense to use 22.5° angles. To envision what I had in mind, imagine the slope of the head is at 22.5° in the first crease pattern below. This angle turned out to be too sharp, so I tried widening it ever so slightly and by sheer luck I discovered that I could fit it into an overlaid grid.

The finished model is somewhat front heavy, so to balance it on two legs requires additional weight in the tail or rear section of the model. This is actually not the case with the 2011 version which can balance unassisted on its own two feet.

The crease pattern for the 2011 version versus the 2015 one. The most noticeable change seen is the placement of the jaws which makes the newer version much more geometrically pleasing given that it now has the same number of teeth in the upper and lower jaws.
