I began designing an elephant in mid 2015 and was inspired to finalize the design after seeing Sipho Mabona's fully three dimensional elephant model in person at the Korean Origami Convention.
This design has a fairly open back which is something designers often avoid. I believe the model makes up for this potential flaw by having accurate proportions and a detailed and uniquely shaped head, trunk, and tusk assembly.
